Opera Pavilion

Project 2A: Pavilion @ Kuala Selangor Nature Park

In a group of two, we have to design a pavilion at Kuala Selangor Nature Park for a blind pianist for the purpose of relaxing/ contemplation. It shall include the activities of resting, meditation, observation, viewing etc. in which furniture and equipment must fit and be incorporated with the design. The pavilion designed should correspond to the site that we have chosen with suitable access, circulation and fenestration.

My partner and I have designed an Opera Pavilion for a blind pianist by the river. We have applied contructive concepts in this pavilion to reflect the user's characteristics and suitable for him.

Concept 1: Opera Pavilion consists of three designed spaces for piano playing, music composing and rest.

Concept 2: Fluid plan to provide an convenient access to walk from a space to another in the pavilion that present the continuity of the spaces.

Concept 3: Different wall textures in each spaces help to let blind pianist to identify the space easily.

Learning Outcome

In this project, I have learned to generate form and space through architectural conceptualisation, with the emphasis on exploring the user requirement and simple spatial organization skills and site responding to develop an architectural proposition. I realised that drawings and models are essential and as a critical design tool as part of the design development.
