     Project 2: GENIUS LOCI: Site Analysis & Concept Development

This project requires an analysis of the site context. It is important to understand the site context in both intuitive and personal ways as it will suggest a series of parameters to suggest architectural solution which will be appropriate to the place and its meaning, and contributes to its context. Besides, this project also required us to map a site over a series of significant stages in the course of its history provides a description of the life and memory of a place. They can provide inspiration for a contemporary idea that connects directly with past archaeology/ memory/ history of the site.

Concept Development 

     Pulau Besar has given me a strong sense of spiritualness on the island after the journey (site visit). the mystical stories and legends bring the feeling of spiritualness by its own.  A strong believe in a story is like a rock, and it slowly smoothen by the time which the original incident had been twisted and adapted by people who spread from a generation to the next generation.

Learning Outcome

     Through this project, I am managed to produce site analysis which document, interpret and analyse the site context and the ‘genius loci’ of place. Then, I have learned to produce a concept design for a Visitor Interpretive Centre based on the site analysis conclusions. My design concept need improvement on generate a clear concept which related to the genius loci of the place – Pulau Besar, abstract the concept and translate it into an architectural form of a building.
