Paying It Forward_ Agathians Shelter

Project 1: Environmental - Community Service (Exploring the sense of environmental and                                 community engagement as future designer)

Environmental-Community service is performed for the benefit of the public. Environmental-Community service is a commitment. Basically, community service is a way for a person to give back to a community in which they live. There are many ways of giving back to the community; it can include mural painting on school wall, cleaning and painting of orphanages, building a small bench for those who in needs, collecting items for charity, or just simply cleaning up a park. This project helps to build a person’s character and work on skills of communication, teamwork and leadership. It is better to apply what have taught in class in real life problems not only helps the member of community, it also increases our knowledge and skills while helping us to find our place as engaged citizens of the world.

A group of 10 members, we had choosen to help Agathians Shelter Children's Home         to create a mural with natural environment theme on the front wall of the house and add some greens around to educate them the important of the relationship between natural environment and our human community. We have planned for this project which really help the home to improve its environment. We help and give what they needs. The home staff and children are really appreciate what we did for their home. At last, this is an great experience and oppurtunity to lean a hand for community in need. We have recorded the entire process of this project in a report , poster and multimedia presentation.

Learning Outcome

Through this project, I have learned to aware of the local current issue and the sustainable method to solve the problems. In the other hand, I have learned to document proposal and report of the entire project and also produce a multimedia presentation on the issue and process taken to resolve the issue. Besides, I have learned to recognise role and responsibility of an architect towards environment and society. I have also learned to illustrate the creativity in attempting to explore the current environmental circumstances and creating a environmentally sustainable product/design/services. In addition, I have also learned the important skills of communication, leadership, teamwork and problem solving. I feel glad to have the opportunity to give a hand to work with the community and for the community.
