INDUSTRIALISED BUILDING SYSTEM

THIS IS A GROUP ASSIGNMENT WHICH PREDOMINANTLY RELATES TO THE TOPICS OF INDUSTRIALISED BUILDING SYSTEM (IBS) AS WELL AS THE MATERIALS' EMBODIED ENERGY. BEFORE EMBARKING ON THIS PROJECT STUDENTS WILL BE EXPOSED WITH DIFFERENT TYPES AND METHODS OF THE IBS SYSTEM AND THE CALCULATION OF EMBODIED ENERGY OF DIFFERENT BUILDING MATERIALS IN THE CLASSROOM. THIS PROJECT CONSISTS OF TWO PARTS. IN THE FIRST PART, EACH GROUP IS REQUIRED TO CONDUCT THEIR OWN STUDY ON A BUILDING WHICH WAS CONSTRUCTED USING IBS TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPONENTS BETTER. IN THE SECOND PART, THE GROUP HAS TO CONSTRUCT A MODEL OF A 3-STOREY APARTMENT BUILDING TO IMITATE THE ACTUAL IBS CONSTRUCTION PROCESS AND TO RECORD ALL THE PROCESS IN A VIDEO.

REFLECTION

IN THIS PROJECT, I HAVE LEARNED TO IDENTIFY AND COLLECT RELEVANT RESEARCH DATA OF IBS. I HAVE STUDIED RELATE BASIC STRUCTURAL ELEMENTS AND STRUCTURAL PRINCIPLES IN CONSTRUCTION ABOUT IBS THROUGH PRECEDENT STUDY AND CASE STUDY. IN A GROUP, WE HAVE ANALYSED AND DOCUMENTED CONSTRUCTION PROCESSES AND METHODS AND MATERIALS IN A VIDEO. BESIDES, WE HAVE ALSO LEARNED ABOUT CRITIQUE ISSUES PERTAINING TO ENERGY EFFICIENCY, EMBODIED ENERGY AS WELL AS ECOLOGICAL IMPACT. I FELT GREAT AND COMFORTABLE IN GAINING THE BEST COLLABORATION EXPERIENCE FROM MY GROUPMATES TO ACHIEVE THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF THIS PROJECT.
